Staging your house for sale

Staging your house for sale is a balancing act. You want to de-personalize the space, but you want to leave enough furnishings and decor in the room to give potential buyers the idea of how big the space is and spark ideas in their minds of what they could do with the space.

To prepare my own house for sale, the realtor sent in a licensed real estate stager and he worked with us to create a detailed plan. In the above picture, we transformed my son’s bedroom from a cluttered, very personal space into a cleaner version. Flipping the bed from one wall to the opposite wall opens up the space as you walk into the room. Removing all the memorabilia and personal pics left the room with a pleasant, general appeal. Think “pretty hotel room” and declutter accordingly.

We used Robert Clifford, of Staged to Sell (stagingchicagoland@gmail.com) for staging; his advice was practical, easy to follow and really transformed our space.

If you are working with a stager and don’t have the time to execute the prescribed plan or need help with pulling it together, this is where a professional organizer can help. Contact me for help with your staging implementation issues.
