Editorial Design Case Study

This case study refers to the fourth project done as part of the UX/UI Bootcamp at Ironhack São Paulo by Caio César and me.

We were challenged to develop an Editorial Solution with one of the 5 personas presented to us in the briefing. We chose to work with James a Tech savvy businessman interested in Sociology and Economics that likes to read and go on Bike Trips.

Having chosen the Persona we decided to do a Visual Competitive Analysis of the Editorials that our persona already consumed to identify and compare visual patterns.

In brainstorming, using a mind map, we decided to create an Editorial involving his hobbies and centered around Biking.

We then proceeded to benchmark what already existed in the bicycle universe to establish what would be our unique approach.

We decided to center our Editorial on Stories from people whose life is impacted by biking while also having suggestions of routes for bike trips as a second theme of the Editorial.

In the Brand Positioning, we consolidated that concept. We added that the Editorial should inspire people to join the movement of biking as a form of changing their lives. Therefore the name Cycle Magazine was a way of playing with the word Bicycle and the Cycles of our lives.

Having the concept pinned down we moved towards the visual of our Editorial using a Moodboard to help us with that task.

That then led us to the Style Guide of our Editorial App.

This is the Cycle Magazine App prototype in Figma:

During this project, we learned that working in doubles can be very productive as we divided the work by focusing on each other strengths.

Moving forward we would like to make Cycle Magazine responsive to a web format.
