Education has indeed been “weaponized” and at times used only to further personal gains. The reality is, the pursuit of higher education is no longer to serve others but, as you mentioned — leading towards more money and a more attractive CV.
But there is still hope for us. To “Us” who decided to pursue higher education because we can redirect our focus and engage civil society. According to Smith (2013), civic engagement is most prevalent among those with higher educational levels.
Nonetheless, we are here as change agents. As stated in one of the Claremont Cores, Change allows us to collaborate for positive and sustainable impact.
