Welcome to the AnalogFolk weekly innovation roundup, where our technical lead Francisco Jordão summarises the innovations of the week; from the weird to the wonderful, and everything in-between.

This week is a lot about AI and an old IT battle… We start with software that fools Alexa and Siri AI. But of course, AI is not famous for being fooled and an intelligent robot can now sort out our waste in the correct recyclable bin bags. Google trained AI to recognise transparent objects and in India AI is being used to dub video and lip-sync. At the end you can find an article about that old battle between PC and Mac users, turns out that PCs are safer now. I just think there are more Macs out there so stats are, as always, just what they are…

Software that swaps out words can now fool the AI behind Alexa and Siri

The news: Software called TextFooler can trick natural-language processing (NLP) systems into misunderstanding text just by replacing certain words in a sentence with synonyms.

This robot trash bin automatically sorts your recyclables for you

No more standing over the bins, trying to decide whether your empty container is trash or recycling.

Google’s ClearGrasp AI model helps robots better recognize transparent objects

ClearGrasp, a new Google-developed AI model, helps autonomous robot arms to grasp objects that are transparent in appearance.

This AI can perfectly dub videos in Indic languages — and correct lip syncing

Resarchers from the International Institute of Information Technology from the southern city of Hyderabad, India have developed a new AI model that translates and lip-syncs a video from one language to another with great accuracy.

Sorry, Mac owners, a new report says Windows PCs are safer from malware

The Mac vs. PC debate isn’t nearly as intense as it was earlier in the 21st century, but a new malware report could stoke the flames a little bit for the first time in years. Bad news for the seven people out there who still feel superior for owning Macs.
