TikTok signs new music deal

As part of its ongoing plans to create a music-streaming service to rival the likes of Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music, TikTok has signed a licensing deal with global agency Merlin. Music that it represents can now be used legally on the platform anywhere that the app is available.

Ronaldo scores 200m on IG

Cristiano Ronaldo has reached another milestone record, but this time it’s off the pitch. The Juventus forward has become the first person in the world to reach 200 million followers on Instagram. He still has some ground to make up on Instagram itself, which boasts 330 million followers on its own profile.

Rumour has it that he pockets around 900,000 euros for every sponsored post he makes, which is around 48 million euros a year — more than he earns as a player for his team. Mind. Officially. Blown.

Snapchat x Tokyo Olympics

Snapchat and NBC Olympics have announced their third consecutive Olympics partnership, which will see the broadcaster host content from the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo onto the social network.

Over 70 episodes from four daily shows will be streamed, including two daily highlight shows and the return of Chasing Gold — which follows the athletes from the USA Team.

Vine successor launches

Don Hofmann, the co-creator of Vine who has been quietly working on a successor to the short-form video platform, says new app Byte is now available on iOS and Android. It was officially launched last Friday as a complete surprise.

Byte is not to be confused with Beijing-based Bytedance, the Chinese maker of TikTok which is actually now the biggest competition. We’ll have to see whether TikTok users give Byte a chance and if the app can live up to the hype of carrying the Vine name forward.
