Between the Wish and the Thing

I like it best when my photographs look like paintings. I shoot for that effect, and one of my favorite subjects right now, is the California coast and the space where the ocean and the sky meet.

I shoot medium format film and mostly with a Hasselblad, but for this project I’m also using some older cameras like the Kodak Autographic and Ansco Shur Shot box camera. The above photo is a long exposure taken with a Kodak Autographic and won the 2015 6th Artslant Prize Showcase.

My plan is to have these ready for Silicon Valley Open Studios in May. I’ll post again when they’re in their final form, but for now here are some coastal explorations I’m calling “Between the Wish and the Thing”.
