Episode Synopsis: Pascal Finette joined us for a conversation on the story behind Singularity University Labs and how they work startups with exponential technologies focusing on different global grand challenges out there. We also discussed his new book “The Heretic” and his reflections on the Silicon Valley ecosystem and why it has been difficult to be replicated elsewhere in the world.

Here are the three interesting points which we discussed during this episode:

  • Pascal shared about the mission and vision of the Singularity University, and the role of the SU labs within the ecosystem sitting inside Silicon Valley and how they fund startups coupled with exponential technologies focused on a grand global challenge.
  • He shared why he wrote his book “The Heretic” which origins went back to the days when he was in Mozilla. The motivation is to provide the lessons to the reader on what he experienced as an entrepreneur into a book which one can read from time to time and not cover to cover to gain insights.
  • In the same light, he offered his perspectives on why startups in Silicon Valley collaborate and compete intensely with the view that ideas are cheap and dozen.
