Episode Synopsis: Patrick Malatack, vice president of product management from Twilio joined us in a conversation to discuss the footprint of the communications platform company in Asia Pacific. We discussed the various products and services of Twilio and how they have evolved over the years, and how traditional and technology companies are building interesting business applications on the platform. Patrick also shared his perspectives in product management and where it will head in the next 5 years.

Here are the three interesting points which we discussed during this episode:

  • Patrick offered a comprehensive overview of Twilio as a global communications platform and their coverage in Asia. In our conversation, he discussed how the slew of products have evolved since the early days and the new products which are changing traditional industries such as programmable chat and video.
  • He discussed how global brands such as Uber and Airbnb have leveraged Twilio and offered examples of traditional brands such as ING, Nordstrom and Coca Cola in applying the communications platform to their businesses. In Asia, he mentioned Chope, a restaurant booking application and other applications in the healthcare and education sector.
  • Last but not least, he shared the traits that Twilio identifies to hire their product managers. He expected data analytics and machine learning will become part of the product manager’s tools in the next few years.
