Introduction

Imagine having access to all the data you need to run a successful business. Your marketing data tells you who your customers are and what they want. Your distribution data tells you how you can improve order fulfilment rates. Your warehouse data tells you information about capacity and turn-around times. Jackpot!

This is the expectation, right? However, it is not enough having all the data in the world. You need the correct data architecture in place. This is why Amazon, Google and Microsoft have dedicated platforms in making your expectation a reality.

This article will introduce you to the basics of Microsoft’s Azure Data Explorer (ADX), where I will be answering the following questions:

  • What is Azure Data Explorer?
  • What types and sources of data can you analyse?
  • How does it work?
  • When is Azure Data Explorer the correct tool to use?
  • Are there other platforms?
