Different Cloud Providers
Hey, after a long time I’m here again! And this time to introduce you to different cloud providers of present times.
Along with the raging importance of data science and machine learning, the other leading technology of recent times is the cloud technology into which corporates are investing a lot of resources.
Cloud computing is not just a present hype but also a technology of tomorrow as we know it is making maintenance and management of company resources and data making easier, more convenient and cheaper.
Let’s introduce ourselves with the different options we have for cloud regarding the providers.
- Microsoft Azure
Azure is the cloud service provided by Microsoft, which itself is one of the well-known and preferred company in all regards. Launched 12 years ago, this has gained a lot of trust among its customer base.
As Microsoft provides Business Intelligence solutions well known as MSBI: SSMS, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS and Power BI, to users of these products, Azure combination builds a reliable and convenient choice. Apart from this, as wwe know, Microsoft is one of the biggest open source contributors in the world; Azure supports seamless use of open source technologies.
Some of its well known clients are eBay , Boeing ,Samsung , GE Healthcare and BMW among others. There are many big organizations confident in its standing as they invest a lot percent in it like LinkedIn, Verizon, Adobe and Intel.
2. AWS
Being the first major cloud provider, Amazon Web Services enjoys a huge fan base. It provides an option of free limited use in the form of “free tier account”.
‘AWS has significantly more services, and more features within those services, than any other cloud provider.’- says the official website of Amazon.
Headquartered in Seattle, US, it is used by clients all over the world like Netflix, LinkedIn, Facebook and BBC, etc..
3. GCP
Provided by Google, which speaks for itself, Google Cloud Platform stands out in the ease of use and a GUI option for most of its services to minimize the need of technical proficiency in its users.
With a lot of easily available tutorials, Google gives you a 300$ worth of free use, among many of its services that can be used for free forever. I’d write a few comprehensive tutorials and guides on this topic in a span of coming time, keep watch on my blogs if you are interested.
Target and Goldman Sachs are two of the big brands that are its clients. The number of GCP users are far less than the above two providers but is growing rapidly. LinkedIn, Yahoo, Intel have stake in its stocks.
4. Apex
Apex is owned by Dell and thus uses the expertise and knowledge of this well commended and high achiever brand.
APEX Cloud Services offer compute and storage resources that enable secure and consistent infrastructure and operations for your workloads across private and public cloud. It helps in seamlessly using hybrid cloud technologies.
Oracle is the major user of the services.
5. Heroku
‘Heroku is a cloud platform as a service supporting several programming languages. One of the first cloud platforms, Heroku has been in development since June 2007, when it supported only the Ruby programming language, but now supports Java, Node.js, Scala, Clojure, Python, PHP, and Go.’ — Wikipedia.
Well, it’s common usage is among students as it is completely free. A premium version is available but the free version is good enough for learning and experimenting purposes.
I’ll write a step by step project guide for it sometime. It’s easy-peasy, you can try it on your own too.
Well, this concludes my list of the major cloud providers. This is an emerging field and the above is by no means an exhaustive list, just a list I personally think is relevant. You can very well add your knowledge and opinion in the comments.
That’s it for now, thanks for reading!
Until next time, Ta-da……..!!
