A simple step-by-step guide to creating a radar chart with Tableau 🛩️

A radar (or spider) chart is a minimal but powerful visualisation named for it’s similarity to retro radar screens.

They are particularly useful for presenting multivariate data and comparing several metrics that do not necessarily share the same scale.

The purpose of this article is to cover the how-to of building the following radar chart in Tableau. If you’re interested in the mathematics behind building a radar chart (and how-to in Python), see here:

Data

The data should consist of a categorical column and a continuous measure column. We will refer to our continuous measure column as v, the number of unique values in the categorical column will be referred to as n. Example data can be downloaded from here.
