How to Load Data into SPSS

When first getting started with the SPSS environment it may be daunting. This quick introduction to loading data should help you get started.

When you first open SPSS this is what you should see. From this point you have the option to click new dataset which creates a blank dataset that you can enter data into or you can click open.

Clicking Open

Once you are ready to open a .sav file (selected in blue in the sample files list) click open and it will open. If you need to open a file that is not included in the sample files (likely) then navigate up to the file menu. Mouse down to import data.

Then click the type of file that you need to open.
