Linear Regression

Machine Learning. Let’s say it a more simple way. Let the machine learn. Machine learning is a huge field that helps in following up to date technologies.

Let’s get into the point. How do machines work? It is a simple and direct way of feeding algorithms to the machine and training it even more.

what are algorithms? The algorithm is the path that the machine will follow to find out the desired results.

New born babies take baby steps for walking. We tell them to walk by the wall, to teach them the ‘Algorithm of Walking’. It is the same thing for machines to start learning new algorithms and producing new results.

So, what are the most important algorithms? We will start with the latest and the most interesting, Regression

It all began in 1800s with Francis Galton. Galton was a scientist analyzing relationships between parents and children. More specifically, Galton was studying the relationship of Father’s height and Son’s height.

At first Galton realized that sons’ heights were so close to their fathers’. After further studies, he found something much more significant which is the sons’ height are closer to the ‘average’ height of all the people rather than to his father.

From here came the idea of Regression that is a long field itself ! Galton finally concluded that the son’s height ‘regress’ the ‘mean’ height, which indicates that it fulls toward to average height of all people.

Interesting right? Today, Regression is one of the algorithms that is considered a basic approach to start with for machine learning.

Technically speaking, linear regression is predicting the value ‘y’ given ‘x’.

Simple as that!
