It’s not only work, but also fun — Anar off-site, Goa 2021
A month back, I was on a flight to Goa for the first offsite I was attending in my life @ Anar, and the third offsite ever organized by Anar. This year, the whole team of 23 flew from 10+ states for 8 days of complete bonding.
Having joined recently, coupled with the fact that our team doubled in size over the last few months, Goa was a perfect opportunity for the whole team to bond. Many of us met each other for the first time and for some new joiners like Krishna, it was a dream onboarding. :)
In recent times, especially post covid, offsites play an important part in a startup’s culture. But what are offsites for? Are they a paid holiday? Or chilling by the pool to come home with tanned backs and wide smiles? Or it is the perfect place to brainstorm and steer the direction of the company forward aligned to the vision.
Well, ours was about working and celebrating together by the pool.
We touched down in Goa on a Sunday morning and headed to the spacious villas booked as our abode for the week. On reaching there, some directly kicked off the workation by jumping into the pool in style. For me, it was personally exciting to finally know the people behind the slack displays.
What I loved
It was here, that I realized that ours is a truly eclectic team with the best minds. For one had tried his hands at film making during his IIT days, the second has been running a successful blog for 5 years, the third was on his way to join the Indian air force before BITS and was a star football player, then the fourth has been on a perpetual workation from the Himalayas and beaches. And I am not even getting started on the other 19.
Apart from working together, we lived together.
- Different cuisines every day? Yes.
- 2 am Philosophical discussions? Yes.
- Vibing to great music and dancing together? Yes.
Being together in the same place at the same time does stimulate collaboration. Rather than immediate collaboration, the Goa offsite set the stage for future collaboration, when we will be back to our respective states and desks.
