Call anyone and instantly broadcast the conversation, with Anchor Interviews

In Anchor 2.2, available today for iOS and Android, you can record a call with anyone and effortlessly add the interview to your station. All you need is Anchor — and all they need is a phone.

Exactly a month ago, we launched a brand new version of Anchor that made it possible to create interactive streams of audio called Stations. With Stations, Anchor lets anyone easily broadcast their voice, share full length songs from Spotify and Apple Music, take call-ins from listeners, and even publish external audio clips. The reception to this new version has been incredible — and inspiring: we’ve already seen over 2 million plays of audio from the new platform in the month of March alone (far exceeding our original internal goal of 1 million plays).

We’ve seen so many interesting, creative uses of our new tools, but one trend that’s been hard to ignore is that people love to record conversations with others. Whether it be professional journalists conducting interviews with fascinating people, or friends catching up about their favorite TV show right after it airs, we’ve found that hearing two people talk to each other is almost always compelling. These conversations have always needed to be recorded either in person, or on a computer with clunky recording software and voice-over-IP calling applications — until today.

Call anyone from Anchor and instantly broadcast the conversation to your station.

With Anchor Interviews, you no longer need to be in the same room as the other person to capture and share a conversation. In fact, the person you’re calling doesn’t even need to have Anchor. All they need is a phone. And like all of the other creation tools in Anchor, it just works — no tutorials or prior production experience necessary.

Here’s what else we think you’ll love about our new Interviews tool:

  1. Before you publish your Interview, you can apply a background track, or even edit it into multiple segments with our clipping tool (aka the Clipper).
  2. After you publish your Interview, we automatically email you a transcription of the conversation , so you can easily publish the text in an article, a blog post, or wherever else you see fit. We also text a link to the interview to the person who’s featured in your Station, so they can hear and share it, too.
  3. Under the hood, the calling functionality is powered by Twilio, meaning the service is rock-solid, fast, and reliable. We’ve tested the feature in some pretty brutal network conditions — including via super slow airplane wifi — and it works like a charm.
Interviews: now available in Anchor 2.2

We think you’re going to love it just as much as we do, so check out Interviews. And by the way: when it comes to Anchor’s suite of easy-to-use creation tools, we’re just getting started. We’ve got more game-changers in the works, and we can’t wait to see — and hear — what you do with them.

If you’ve recorded an Interview, we’d love to hear it! Share your stations or any feedback about the new release with us on Twitter at @anchor.
