At Anchor, we’ve always wanted to make it ridiculously easy to make a great podcast. But sometimes, great podcasts are about more than just capturing your voice and sharing it with the world. Sometimes, the blend of voice, music, sounds, and transitions come together in a perfect symphony of creativity, and a good podcast becomes a great one.

Any podcaster will tell you that this isn’t an easy feat to pull off. Between finding the perfect music (and getting the rights!), creating unique sounds, and precisely editing it all into a masterpiece, the whole thing can take a ton of time and effort. So today we’re introducing a whole suite of tools to help you design the way your podcast sounds, and give it an extra something to make it shine, in seconds.

Smart Background Music

Choose from an enormous new library of over 100 beautiful, podcast-ready background tracks, free to use with no commercial restrictions. A lot of the new tracks come from our friends at Blue Dot Sessions, who provide awesome background music if you want to browse even more options just for your own podcast. You can browse by the mood you’re going for (like ‘calm’ or ‘cheerful’), or search by name or keywords.

Each track will intelligently adjust in volume so that it sounds natural with your recording. Here’s how it works: the background song automatically starts at full volume. Then after an intro, the music dips and your recorded audio comes in. The song loops until your segment is done, and then right at the end, the music swells back up, and fades out. This means your background music sounds really polished, never outshines your voice, and takes just a second to apply.

Here’s what it sounds like:

New Sounds and Interludes

Quickly add a fun sound effect or musical interlude to inject some more personality into your podcast. This is great for punctuating elements in your story or transitioning to a new topic. Many of the interludes are short “stingers” that match the background tracks.

Try using a background track for your intro, and later bringing in a couple short interludes derived from the same piece of music, to transition from one segment to another.

Import your own

You can even import your own background music, sounds, or interludes to easily reuse whenever you want to. You can also favorite your most used tracks (whether they’re yours or Anchor’s) to make it easier to get to the ones you always use.

We’ve been working with talented independent creators to create more background music, sounds, and interludes to add to the Anchor library, and we’re looking for more to work with in the future (musicians and producers, feel free to contact us).

With Anchor, it’s now easier than ever to make a great sounding podcast with just your phone. We can’t wait for you to try our newest tools on your podcast!
