In todayโs information-rich world, authentic applications remain scarce. James 1:22 gives us a significant reminder, urging us to immerse ourselves in the transformative power of Godโs Word. โBut be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.โ There must be an action beyond our hearing; otherwise, youโre living dishonestly.
The call to be doers of the Word has significance in todayโs complex world, where knowledge is at our fingertips on overflowing knowledge in social media. We are bombarded with viewpoints, ideologies, and information, which causes us to become passive and not active, where itโs not common to find one performing Godโs Word.
Hearing Godโs Word is a blessing, but thereโs more blessing coming to those who not only hear but also keep and implement Godโs Word. Obedience is required for spiritual growth. Blessings are not only in the hearing; they unfold in the doing. Luke 11:28 Jesus said, โYea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.โ
Paulโs exhortation aligns with Jamesโ call to action, emphasizing the importance of actively implementing Godโs Word in a chaotic world and fostering peace amidst turmoil. In Philippians 4:9, he said, โThose things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.โ
Christโs parable in Matthew 7:24โ27 highlights the importance of taking action as doers of the Word who are rooted in Christ, enduring lifeโs storms, and demonstrating the enduring power of obedience. Verse 24 He said, โTherefore, whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rockโฆโ
John echoes Jamesโ exhortation, emphasizing the authenticity of love demonstrated through action. 1 John 3:18 says, โMy little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth.โ โ Love requires action! This verse challenges us to love actively, reflecting the selfless love Christ demonstrated on the cross.
Brethren, as we take this challenge to be doers, we not only align ourselves with biblical teachings but also become beacons of light in a world groping in darkness. Itโs a call to bridge the gap between knowledge and transformation, making Christianity a living testament to Godโs love.
As we strive to be doers of the Word, letโs remember Colossians 3:17, which says, โAnd whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.โ Our actions, reflections of His love, must continually point back to the transformative power of Christ.
Always Begin With Godโฆ
Prayer: Lord, grant us the strength to be not just hearers but doers of Your Word. May our lives be living testimonies of Your love and grace. Help us, through our actions, reflect the transformative power of Christ in a world that desperately needs Your light. Amen.
