The prophet Isaiah addresses the people of Israel in Isaiah 26:4 during a period of considerable turbulence and uncertainty. This passage is a hymn of praise and confidence in God’s unchanging nature, knowing that He will provide them strength in weakness, deliverance from the enemy, restoration from destruction, and stability during life’s trials.

In a world filled with uncertainties, fears, and shifting foundations, we long for something unshakable and secure to anchor our lives upon. We witness the ebb and flow of circumstances, the relentless waves of adversity, and the ever-present sense of instability. Isaiah 26:4 declares, “Trust ye in the LORD forever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.

The Scriptures remind us of the steadfastness and unwavering strength found in trusting the Lord. Isaiah 26:4 encourages us to place our trust in the Lord forever, for it is in Him that we find everlasting strength. This verse invites us to anchor our lives upon the unchanging character and promises of our God.

Psalm 18:2 echoes this truth: “ The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.” The Lord is described as a solid rock, a place of refuge and deliverance. When the world around us is tumultuous, we can find stability and security in Him.

When the storms of life rage around us, we can find peace and stability by placing our trust in the Lord’s promises. Psalm 56:3–4 reminds us, “ What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his word, in God, I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.” As we hold onto His promises, fear and anxiety, lose their grip, and we find strength in His unfailing love.

In times of weakness and weariness, we can draw strength from the everlasting arms of our God. Deuteronomy 33:27 proclaims, The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms… His arms surround us, providing shelter, support, and comfort. We can rest in His embrace, knowing that His strength is perfect and that we are secure in His care.

Moreover, Proverbs 3:5–6 offers guidance in trusting the Lord wholeheartedly: Trust in the LORD with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. God’s finite wisdom is more reliable than our limited understanding. When we trust in Him, He promises to direct our paths and lead us in the way we should go.

Brethren, God is trustworthy, and we cannot deny we have doubts about Him in times of trouble; no wonder when the sleeping Jesus with His disciples on the boat encounters a raging storm with His presence, He said: “O ye of little faith(Matthew 8:26). Their faith that was once anchored to Him was not so tight in times of storm! And we cannot deny we are like that…

But Isaiah 26:4 encourages us to place our unwavering trust in the Lord, for in Him we find everlasting strength. As we navigate the uncertainties of life, we can anchor our hope and security in His unchanging character. Jesus Christ embodies unchanging strength and character; trusting in Him provides unwavering hope and stability, surpassing our understanding.

Let us anchor our lives on Jesus Christ, who is our firm foundation and the source of our unshakable faith.

Always Begin With God
