Poor Apple iOS!
Android won the platform war…
In the chart above from Statista you can see the result of a year long war between Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android! According to the researchers Android has a market share of 81.2 percent and iOS a market share of 15.8 percent. (Windows Phone has just little 2.2 percent!)
But now look at the value for 2019! What do you see?
Apple will loose 1.7 percent of this market share! Even Windows Phone (now Windows 10 Mobile) will grow about 0.1%.
But the most impressing fact here is the growth of Android: 1.4 percent over the next 4 years! The real winner…
The smartphone shipments really rises up (Look at “Others”!). And now compare “Others”, Samsung and Apple! Poor Apple…
Even if the shipments rise the relative rise of Apple shipments isn’t as impressive as “Others”’s or Samsung’s (I agree - It’s maybe not the best sample) rise.
Apple has now two options:
- Either they dramatically change their strategy (I hope in a good way)
- Or they’ll have to look back to good times (I think you know what I mean)
But what are the reasons why Android won?
I think there are a couple of reasons:
- Too expensive prices - Yeah I think that’s the main reason. Or do you want to buy a smartphone for 1000$ which is outdated after just one year?
- Not exclusive enough anymore - When they started selling iPhones back around 2007 it was a sensation! Smartphones were something very cool new. If you wanted to be one of the cool guys you had to have an iPhone. But now you haven’t to have an iPhone any more… (By the way: My favorite smartphone brand is Motorola!)
- All the scandals… You remember the Antennagate or the Bendgate or even the U2-gate? That may be a reason too!
