Between 2012 and 2015, Onetius emerged as one of Europe’s most forward-thinking educational platforms — long before global e-learning became the new normal.

Created to make knowledge accessible to everyone, Onetius enabled:

• Interactive lessons (video, audio, and presentations)
• Rich discussions and student–teacher collaboration
• Real-time updates and categories for every field
• A “People Nearby” feature that connected learners for practical, local projects

With over 4,900 students and teachers, Onetius quickly became a continental phenomenon — connecting people from Croatia to the rest of Europe, from universities to independent innovators, and even engineers designing Formula Student race cars or hydrofoil boats, and prepare for biotechnology national exams.

What was once visionary has now become standard.

Building the Future Before It Existed

When Onetius was built, the modern web ecosystem was still forming. Frameworks like React or Vue.js didn’t yet exist and dominate the market, cloud infrastructure was still maturing, and “scalable architecture” was reserved for enterprise giants.

Yet, Onetius chose an advanced, forward-looking stack that embodied what we now recognize as modern web architecture principles — modularity, reusability, and scalability.

Frontend: Backbone.js — The Architecture of Innovation

Technology: Backbone.js (Released 2010)
Used for: Dynamic lesson system, discussions, and real-time user interfaces

At the time, Backbone was one of the first serious attempts to bring order to frontend codebases.
It introduced the Model-View architecture, event-driven updates, and modular components — concepts that are the foundation of every modern framework today.

By choosing Backbone.js, the Onetius achieved:

While others still coded in raw PHP, Onetius leveraged one of the world’s first truly modern backend frameworks, enabling reliability and scalability at a fraction of the usual complexity.

Today, Andromeda Technology builds backend ecosystems with Node.js, NestJS, and TypeScript, applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and event-based microservice architectures for the next generation of platforms.

Database Layer: MySQL — Stable, Structured, Scalable

MySQL was the logical choice — proven, fast, and battle-tested.
Combined with Laravel’s Eloquent ORM, it enabled clean data access and robust relational modeling.

It provided:

• Reliable scalability across growing datasets
• Simple migrations and versioning, crucial for long-term maintainability

Today, Andromeda Technology uses MongoDB, Kafka, Elasticsearch, and distributed NoSQL databases to power global, high-availability systems — from startups to enterprise platforms.
