Catalina Island.

A fantastic weekend getaway.

It’s a little after noon on Friday, February 3rd. Today is a special day. It’s Ashley’s birthday. In typical Ashley Torres style, she’s planned a weekend getaway for us in Catalina, CA. We’ve checked into a hotel in “Avalon”, a sleepy little town at the southern tip of the island. The manager at the front desk informed us that Avalon is not quite 1 square mile in area and has fewer than 3,000 permanent residents. (Moral of the story: try not to piss anybody off because you’re likely to see them again soon).

The ferry ride was pretty uneventful. We “set sail” on the Catalina Super Express, a medium-sized vessel that probably sat about 75 people. Ashley was heads down on her phone, mainly reviewing some photos her photographer had just sent over and replying to warm birthday wishes on Instagram. Did I mention how proud I am of her a) surpassing 100k followers and b) rebranding from @pursuitofshoes to @everydaypursuits. This is a big change, nearly 7 years in the making. But the focus of her blog and instagram is really more of a lifestyle brand than just a shoe-obsessed fashion girl.

Things I’m exited to do this weekend:

  • Golf cart rental (for island exploration)
  • Local food tour
  • Museum visit
  • Quality time with Ashley.
  • Attempting to fly a drone we rented (I’ve been told that may be highly illegal here, so this may be my first and last post as a free man on Catalina Island.

All for now,

-Andy
