TopcyChoi’s story
What motivated you to enter the NFT world?
🐲 Topcy Choi : Just like eating jajangmyeon at a Chinese restaurant and sushi at a Japanese restaurant, I believed that it would be natural to trade physical art with fiat currency and digital art with virtual currency.
And that era came quickly, and I didn’t want to miss the current of this era, so I boarded the NFT world.
What were you doing before starting NFT?
🐲 Topcy Choi : After majoring in industrial design, I was designing products at a design company.
I was able to quickly adapt to NFT art as I had done commercial and thorough modeling for others.
I think my growth as an NFT artist was easier because I was able to catch what people like and want.
From The Guardians to Joseon punk, you are expressing the subject of traditional art through NFT. What inspired you to graft traditional art into NFT?
🐲 Topcy Choi : I had a chance to see a wooden column at the time of the Sungnyemun fire.
Looking at the dancheong painted on a pillar that is about 1 meter tall, I thought about how to preserve our traditional arts, which may one day be lost due to human resources or natural disasters, by digitalizing and archiving them.
And because I wanted to enjoy the traditional art that was moved digitally with other people, I decided to combine it with NFT.
Joseon Punk’s story
Please tell us a little bit about the scenery of the punk Joseon era.
🐲 Topcy Choi : Personally, I have a complex view of the ‘Joseon Era’ in our history.
In particular, it was regrettable that the distinction between men and women became deeper and the difference in status became deeper compared to the previous period, the Goryeo period.
The punk Joseon era, in my opinion, is what blew the wind of rebellion into this Joseon era.
In the punk Joseon era, everyone was all together with music, regardless of the nobles and the poor, regardless of age or sex.
Punk Joseon is always full of fun and melodies.

When I posted my work on Twitter, they retweeted a lot of settings and fan art that fit that.

Joseon punk used Western instruments in oriental patterns to create a new combination. How was the combination born?
🐲 TopcyChoi : For many products such as cars, smartphones, and laptops, calm and non-bounce colors are preferred.
But the more colorful the instrument, the more people like it.
When it comes to splendor, our traditional patterns are essential, so I wanted to create a ‘grand splendid’ musical instrument by adding splendor to it.
There were various types of patterns engraved on it. What would be your favorite pattern or hidden point?
🐲 TopcyChoi : The National Museum of Korea inspired me during the preparation of the Joseon Punk series, and there were a few relics that were a big inspiration.
It will be interesting to find out what the patterns of these relics look like in Joseon punk.
And finding the Guardians hidden in some works will be a point!
Unlike The Guardians, this time you prepared 3D art. What motivated you to present your project in 3D art?
🐲 TopcyChoi : If you are not creating governance or designing DeFi with NFT artwork, I thought that what should be presented in the end is the ‘work itself’.
I think that beautiful and well-crafted artwork that anyone can see stimulates people’s desire to own it, even if it has no special function.
As an artist who competes with the quality of the artwork, I am presenting 3D artwork to fully capture the quality and charm.
Was there anything difficult about making Joseon Punk?
🐲 TopcyChoi : Unlike 2D artwork, there were a lot of processes that had to be prepared.
It was a task that was burdensome both physically and in terms of time as it went through many processes such as 3D modeling and drawing work, layout planning, and photorealistic rendering work.
What are the purchasing points of Chosun Punk?
🐲 TopcyChoi : I think the point of purchase is that we can meet our traditional art that we were familiar with but didn’t know about in a modern way.
Is there any buyer benefit you are thinking of this time?
🐲 TopcyChoi : There are no concrete plans yet, but like last time, I am thinking of real goods that bring NFTs to the real world.
As it is NFT artwork for musical instruments, I am planning to try music-related goods.
