Warning: Lots of Wizard of Oz metaphors ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A 100% real, totally not photoshopped photo from CES.

Thousands of tech lovers followed the yellow brick road (well, in this case, yellow tech road) last weekend to the Emerald City of tech conventions, CES 2017 in Las Vegas! Each year we long for more innovative, world-altering tech gear, and thanks to the Great and Powerful CES, we got exactly what we wanted.

With all the crazy cool gadgets presented this year, it’s easy to get lost in all the awesome. So you don’t lose the path, I (@K8eJamesAngelHack Marketing Coordinator) will act as your good witch guide along CES’s yellow tech road and give you a taste of what they offered this year.

🤓 BRAIN

Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate GT

Okay, so I admit this doesn’t look the sexiest, but trust me when I say it’s badass. Your average flash drive carries about 2GB of data, but this one carries 2TB of data — making it the world’s largest capacity flash drive! Now you can store everything, even a copy of the Yoda Seagull song (no judgment). The cost of this lifesaver hasn’t been announced, but you can get it starting this February.

MANGOSLAB Co. Ltd. Nemonic

Are you one to write down your thoughts and ideas, or write passive aggressive post-it notes to your co-workers? Then this product is for you! Nemonic is a tiny thermal printer that can print text, photos, or graphic designs onto sticky-notes for you right at your desk! It is rumored to be available in April for around $100! Seems a little steep, but you and your ideas would definitely be the talk of the office!

🎖️COURAGE

Geko Smart Whistle

If there is something we learned from 2016, it is that the world can be a dangerous place. Now, with the Geko Smart Whistle, you can feel a little bit safer. Not only can you buy it now, but it’s only 50 bucks and it does AMAZING things. Once you blow the whistle, it will call, text, and email your contacts with your location and gives you the ability to send an audio recording of what is going on.

Cerevo’s Taclim VR Shoes

The virtual reality world is still pretty unknown due to the high costs of headsets, but if you are brave enough to enter this world, these shoes bring it to a whole new level. Once you put the shoes on, you can feel the surfaces of the game and actually kick the monsters running at you. Don’t go too crazy though, because according the Cerevo founder, you can feel when the monster kick back. This experience does come at a hefty $1,000+ price, but don’t worry! The release is scheduled for this fall, so you have time to save.

❤️ HEART

Under Armour’s new SpeedForm Europa Record-Equipped shoes

I guess this is not about receiving a heart, but more about keeping the one you have healthy. Under Armour stepped up its game and created a shoe that provides workout stats, tracks your run, gives you the mileage lifespan of your shoe, and (my favorite part) it measures your muscle fatigue level. You can preorder your pair today for $160.

Motiv Smart Ring

Have you heard the phrase “good things come in small packages”? In this case, it’s true. The Motiv Smart Ring is a fitness-focused tracker that sends all of its data to your phone. It tracks things like daily steps, goals, distance, and your heart rate all while appearing to be a cool metal ring. The rings will be available this Spring, but you can reserve one today for $199.

🏠 HOME

Kuri Robot Nanny from Mayfield Robotics

Did you think I was really going to write an entire tech blog without mentioning a robot? Of course not. I saved it for this little guy because it looks like something straight out of WALL-E, and it’s incredibly useful. Kuri is aware of its surroundings, mobile, and has a fun-loving personality all while keeping an eye on your home. Kuri can become part of your family for $699 and can be preordered today.

Smart & Blue HYDROA (LOOP, DROP, and FIRST)

If you’re like me, then you love to take long showers, but you also love to save money so you can get guac next time you’re at Chipotle. My friends, this product was made for us. This shower tech uses a turbine, bluetooth, and an app to help you conserve water. The coolest part, though, is that there is an LED light that will change color to indicate how much water you have used, so you can save some cash. You can pre-order today.

That was just a sample of all the amazing things CES gave us this year, but it definitely has all of us at AngelHack thinking about what awesome prizes we can bring to our 2017 Hackathons! Comment below and tell us what swag you are most excited to see this year, and then grab your mates and get back on that yellow tech road, because 2017 is about to get epic.
