Flashback to 2016 when AngelHack and FLIR teamed up to Bring The Heat with a mini-series of three hackathons hosted in San Francisco, Hong Kong and London. Hackers were given the opportunity to test their hardware skills with the FLIR One thermal-imaging camera attachments for both iPhone and Android devices.

And let’s just say, the results were awesome!

Not sure who FLIR is? FLIR Systems designs, develops, manufactures, markets, and distributes technologies that enhance perception and awareness. They’re all about innovation in thermal imaging systems, visible-light imaging systems, locator systems, measurement and diagnostic systems, and advanced threat detection systems. They build products that are designed to improve the way people interact with the world around them, enhance public safety and well-being, increase energy efficiency, and enable healthy and entertained communities. And — importantly — they’ve embraced the developer community in a big way and are doing everything they can to make it easy and fun for you to create and market fun, useful, and innovative apps using their platforms.

Plus, they’re a super fun company! Just check out the FLIR heat seeking foam missile launchers that brought to all the hackathons!

And this one from London!

OK, you’re convinced that this is awesome stuff now. We know, we are too. So what are they offering for the AngelHack community?

They’re bringing their latest hacker challenge and prizes to Manhattan. At this event they’re focusing solely on smartphone apps that do cool things with their awesome FLIR ONE smartphone attachment, and they’re looking to give out two prizes at each event — one focused on hacks that fulfill consumer needs and one that fills the needs of a professional use case.

They aren’t bringing the NERF turrets to this event, but they’re still bringing the fun with two fun thermal imaging challenges called “Beat the Thermal Sentinel” and the “Thermal Scavenger Hunt”. FLIR challenge winners get FLIR ONEs, and there’s also a super epic Grand Prize that includes a trip to either Portland or Santa Barbara!

Epic right?

Have questions? Shoot Cal from Flir an email, cal.loo@flir.com, and he’ll get you hooked up with whatever you need, including lending hardware if needed and/or connecting you to one of several very capable and dependable FLIR-Certified developers that can develop an app for you.

Let’s hack some awesome thermal imaging apps, AngelHackers!
