What if Clouds could help to prevent, reduce and fight fires?

Imagine if suddenly you get notified through your phone about a fire possibility.

That’s right, AUDREY might the be the solution for most of common fires that have been frightening us throughout these years. AUDREY could not only help fighting them, it could also reduce the risk and consequently prevent this phenomenon, and all this happens through a Cloud!

NASA has developed for 9 months an AI named AUDREY (Assistant for Understanding Data through Reasoning, Extraction, and Synthesis). It was designed to be the “guardian angel” to the first responders on the field, such as police, paramedics and firefighters.

It has the ability to distinguish the role of the first responder and can be integrated with IoT devices in order to collect room temperatures, GPS signals, satellite images, detect the presence of toxic gases or chemicals and even safely guide a team of first responders through the flames.

AUDREY is as effective as the data that it is working with. The more data it receives, the higher the chances of making more useful recommendations for the teams. It can stimulate a part of the human thinking through machin learning.

Why could it be the “guardian angel” of first responders?

AUDREY is designed to keep watching from them from above. As a cloud-based piece of software, it can do more than send data to those in the field.

As it watches an event, it can actually learn and start making predictions about what the next steps are and which resources will be needed.

The AI is able to track an entire team of firefighters, sending relevant signals to individuals while helping to make recommendations on how they could work together.

This won’t only help the firefighting efficiency, but it can actually save their lives as well, as said by Edward Chow, program manager for AUDREY:

“When first responders are connected to all these sensors, the AUDREY agent becomes their guardian angel, because of all this data the sensor sees, firefighters won’t run into the next room where the floor will collapse.”
