Being ‘Horrified’ Is No Excuse For Inaction

To the aide who thinks being ‘horrified’ by 45’s actions is good enough

In a recent article by Washington Post, an anonymous aide who has worked for 45 has come forward and said that they and equally anonymous others were ‘genuinely horrified’ by 45’s conduct.

There was a constant undercurrent in the Trump administration of [senior staff] who were genuinely horrified by the things they saw that were happening on these calls.

Well, anonymous canary, I got news for you.

Standing by the rationally differing opinions of your boss is one thing. Standing by the irrational, self-absorbed, xenophobic, misogynistic, queerphobic, anti-semitic opinions of your boss that affect millions possibly billions of people is another thing altogether.

45 isn’t your manager at a Walmart telling you to put the shampoos on the top shelf where no one can reach them and you do it against your better judgment because who cares as long as you can cash in your hours.

45 is a world leader who has praised-and time and again publicly spoken in favor of -Putin the Invader of Crimea, Kim Jong Un the Dictator of North Korea and MBS the Tyrant of Saudi Arabia.

The consequences of not speaking up in these situations aren’t as small as pissing off a few customers who swear to never return. They are of nuclear proportions. Literally.

You enabled 45’s abuse of power.

It’s convenient to try and absolve yourself of all charges by coming forth now and saying you feel horrified.

Somebody already threw him under the bus, right?

Not speaking up when you could have does not excuse your inaction in the face of criminal activity. It isn’t just the moral but also the Constitutional duty to come forth, raise your voice and stand up against gross abuse of power by the most powerful chair in the entire country.

You knew that the only thing Speaker Pelosi was waiting for was something as concrete and inexcusable as collusion. She said so herself on multiple occasions. You or these other staff you speak of could have come forth and hastened the timeline of the impeachment inquiry. You didn’t.

I’m thankful that you felt ‘horrified’ by what went on in the White House because it implies that you are capable of rational thought. I’m equally horrified at your inaction in the face of criminal activity.

To think that a significant number of people were sitting on evidence this entire time and did nothing?

There is an Irish saying that I’m rather fond of that’s criminally appropriate in this case.

May you be in Heaven a full half-hour before the Devil knows you’re dead.

That will be all.
