INTRODUCTION & PLOT

Drifting Home is a story about sixth graders Kousuke and Natsume. They have been long-time friends, but their relationship was strained because of a family incident.

During their summer vacation, they visit a housing complex scheduled for demolition. Since they grew up there, they hold the place dear to their heart.

When they visited, however, they got caught in a mysterious phenomenon. The housing complex suddenly drifted into the sea with Kousuke, Natsume, and their classmates.

In the resulting phenomenon, Kousuke and Natsume are forced to confront the grief buried in their heart.

The movie explores how grief doesn’t always heal through time. For some, those feelings might resolve after a while or without intervention. But for others, the process is longer and more complex.

But what’s comforting is how it showed that though grief might go away, it reminds us that we value someone, even if they’re no longer around.
