About One Piece

One Piece (Japanese: ワンピース, Hepburn: Wan Pīsu) is a Japanese shōnen manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since July 22, 1997, and has been collected into 96 tankōbon volumes as of April 2020. The story follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a boy whose body gained the properties of rubber after unintentionally eating a Devil Fruit. With his crew of pirates, named the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy explores the Grand Line in search of the world’s ultimate treasure known as “One Piece” in order to become the next King of the Pirates.

The manga spawned a media franchise, having been adapted into a festival film produced by Production I.G, and an anime series produced by Toei Animation, which began broadcasting in Japan in 1999. Additionally, Toei has developed fourteen animated feature films, one original video animation and thirteen television specials. Several companies have developed various types of merchandising and media, such as a trading card game and numerous video games. The manga series was licensed for an English language release in North America and the United Kingdom by Viz Media and in Australia by Madman Entertainment. The anime series was licensed by 4Kids Entertainment for an English-language release in North America in 2004, before the license was dropped and subsequently acquired by Funimation in 2007.

One Piece has received praise for its storytelling, art, characterization, and humor. Several volumes of the manga have broken publishing records, including the highest initial print run of any book in Japan. The official website for Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga announced that the manga has set the Guinness World Record for “the most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author”. As of April 2020, the manga had over 470 million copies in circulation in 43 countries worldwide, making it the best-selling manga series in history. It became the best-selling manga for the eleventh consecutive year in 2018. One Piece is one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time, estimated to have generated more than $21 billion in total franchise revenue, from the manga, anime, films, games and merchandise. About One Piece Movies

The One Piece Movies are theatrical films produced and released by Toei Animation. While generally made with the same cast and crew as the TV anime, they tend to boast much higher production values and animation quality.

Initially, these movies were released annually as part of Toei’s springtime ‘Anime Fair’ events, always as a double feature with various Digimon films. After the third movie (released in 2002), Toei discontinued the fair, and all subsequent movies were produced as standalone features (with the exception of the eleventh movie, released as a double feature with Toriko 3D Movie: Kaimaku! Gourmet Adventure!! for Toei’s 2011 ‘Jump Heroes’ event).

Most of the movies have completely original stand-alone plots set broadly around the contemporary story arc, but movies 8 and 9 directly adapt storylines from the manga. For the first nine movies, Eiichiro Oda was not involved in the films any more than other anime projects; This changed with the production of movie 10, for which Oda wrote the story and served as Executive Producer. Oda would also be heavily involved in movies 12 and 13, all three of which carried the subtitle ‘One Piece Film’.

Three of these movies had shorts accompanying them: The Adventure on Clockwork Island with Jango’s Dance Carnival, Chopper’s Island of Strange Animals with Dream Soccer King, and The Curse of the Sacred Sword with Take Aim! The Pirate Baseball King.

Several movie-length TV Specials have also been produced by Toei.[2]

3. Chopper’s Kingdom on the Island of Strange Animals

Tales of a glorious treasure lead the Straw Hat Pirates to Crown Island, a lush wilderness filled with animals that can think like men. By a stroke of fate, Tony Tony Chopper is separated from his crewmates, and inadvertently fulfills a prophecy heralding the island’s lord and protector, the King of Beasts.

Now revered by the island’s inhabitants — particularly a pirate-hating boy named Mobambi — Chopper finds himself torn between his new “kingdom” and his place with the Straw Hats. In time, however, all of them are swept up in the machinations of Count Battler, a greedy invader hunting for the treasure through the bloodiest means imaginable.

4. Dead End Adventure

Desperate for cash, the Straw Hat Pirates enter a secret race between pirate crews known as the Dead End Competition. When they come back to the ship, they find that Zoro, who was to act as guard, is missing, but they are forced to leave port when they are attacked by Marines. They dock in another section of the island and come across a village, whose job it is to keep the Seven Stars Sword sealed. The answers lie on the night of the red moon.

The Straw Hats receive an invitation to an island resort on Omatsuri Island. They decide to go as a break from their adventures and to have some fun. Luffy is eager to prove that his crew are “pirates of pirates of pirates of pirates” and agree off the bat. But is it really worth it?

There’s something strange about the Baron and the people of the island. And when the game starts, events start to crumble the crew’s camaraderie. And one by one, each member goes missing…

Chance meetings with a pirate family and a former pirate captain unravel a few of the mysteries on Omatsuri Island, particularly one that interested Robin about Omatsuri Island’s special flower ― the Lily Carnation.

7. The Giant Mechanical Soldier of Karakuri Castle

Having recovered a treasure chest from a sinking ship, the Straw Hat Pirates can not wait to see what riches await them inside. Instead of treasure, they pulled out an old lady. Anxious to get back home (and avoid Nami’s wrath for having thrown out the treasure previously in the chest), the old lady offers a great treasure reward if the crew will return her to her home on Mecha Island. Her legend of the Golden Crown sounds too good to be true. Luffy smells adventure, so the crew has no choice. On an island full of amazing inventions, the crew will test their riddle-solving skills-and Luffy’s instinct-to solve the mystery of Mecha Island and its treasure.
