England 2–1 Brasil (Rooney, Lampard / Fred)

Great performance from England, I would say poor from Brasil. But that’s compared to what we usually expect and usually receive. Englands one touch quick passing was reminiscent of what Manchester United have been trying to achieve since various Big Cup finals against Barcelona — and achieved it with some finesse. However, lackadaisical defending from Tim Cahill (again, something you may see at Old Trafford in the past two seasons . . .) let them down, but that was the only marr on what was a pretty solid performance from the Chelsea centre half. Jack Wilshire was MOTM according to many, I must agree, though it was hard to pick, Neymar was not on target but was quite infuencial, and Dani Alves looks very much younger than his years suggest, unlike his counter part on the other flank Adriano who although is looking very sharp for Barcelona was outpaced by Walcott and sadly outskilled also — hence the change late on. Danny Welbeck didn’t score but certainly put a good shift in, both in defence and attack, and Steven Gerrard put in a captains performance, endeavouring to control the pace of the game and get both wingers involved in the game. Rooney’s goal was a superb finish to a good quick move, with accurate passing, it could be seen as a bit lucky but nonetheless deserved I think.

Overall, I think England edged it. Let’s hope it continues for the rest of the year!
