The King of Fruits

In Southeast Asia, durian is regarded as “the king of fruits”. This is a fruit you love or hate.

At this point the worst fruit I’ve tasted is papaya — to me it smells like dirty socks. The smell of durian is so offensive to some that it is banned from being brought into hotels — even with the husk intact. According to Wikipedia, “The smell evokes reactions from deep appreciation to intense disgust, and has been described variously as rotten onions, turpentine, and raw sewage.”

Walking around Pub Street in Siem Reap, Dev, Jan, and I encountered a cart selling durian, and I decided to give it a try. You can check out my reaction below.

It’s not so bad that I’ll never try it again, I was beginning to like papaya slightly more than I used to before the trip, being around a papaya lover (Dev). Currently I remain more of a mango-type. I love mangos.
