The sophomore album “Alive” released in June 2016 by North Carolinian rockers, Eyes Eat Suns, once again wins the hearts of their audience.

By painting rhapsodic lyrics on a melodic canvas, the 5-song EP reveals the struggles of staying true to one’s identity while falling under the pressures of society. Each ballad and tune bleeds truth and communicates a humble and influential message to maintain individuality.

Music raconteurs Ayisa Adderley and Caige Crampshee and drummer, Matt Fariss refuse to showcase nothing but heartfelt craftsmanship, complimenting the musical stylings of each other. The passionate and sincere vocals of Adderley are supported by Crampshee’s harmonic and clean guitar parts and Fariss’ dynamic and rhythmic drum line. Each element composing a work of melodic art revealing “the most truth they’ll ever be” (“Priceless Faces”).

The EP begins with the powerful ballad “Alive”, a tune that unveils a soul meandering through a forest of confusion and struggling to find their true identity in a world of conformity. The second song “Navigate”, reveals Adderley’s emotional journey of crossing roads and seas with fear around the corner. The third song of the EP, “Priceless Faces”, portrays the band’s ride through life and being able to use time to gradually become content with where they are and what journies life will take them. The thrashy “I.V. 101” stresses the importance of “keeping your head above the water” and keeping a healthy mind. Finally, “Tick” concludes the EP, portraying the struggles of being held back by negativity and destructive conscious. Each tune surfaces the water with a story of its own and enlightens the topic of mental health.

Being the most honest and earnest album Eyes Eat Suns currently has, the 5-track EP allows the three-piece to have a heart-to-heart with their audience. I know I had one listening to it.
