Love me like coffee does

A poem, with audio, Love Me Like Ordinary Things

Lorette à la tasse de café, Henri Matisse

Love me like coffee does, so dark, deep, and energizing,
it brings me to life no matter what the night did to me,
or what dreams kept me tossing and turning.

If I could drink you in just the same way,
I think I would be able to do anything.

My coffee is here in the quiet peace
of the morning offering me courage
to begin another uncertain day.

It enters me slowly, rich and warmly,
it boldly courses through my system,
making me feel like a new woman,
oh, would you do that for me?

Don’t be my cup of tea.
Be my life giving coffee.
