Italian-Americans formed San Rafael’s Little Italy

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, nearly one thousand emigrants left the village of Lonate Pozzolo to make a better life in America. Many found their way to San Rafael and McNear’s Brickyard, where they lived in bachelor shacks until they could afford to bring over wives and settle in the neighborhood around C Street to form San Rafael’s Little Italy.
