Marin County Cultural Services Archive donated to the Anne T. Kent California Room
by Laurie Thompson
The Anne T. Kent California Room has been greatly enriched by the addition of a comprehensive collection documenting the Marin County Fair (1946-present) and the Marin Center (1971-present) generously donated by Jim Farley, recently retired director of Marin County Cultural Services.
The compelling primary source materials in the collection range from photographs and videos to printed ephemera, posters, scrapbooks, souvenirs and documents.
California Room staff and volunteers will be organizing and preserving this collection over the course of the next year.
We are grateful to Charlie Barboni, Cultural Services’ Exhibits Coordinator, for his meticulous management of the Fair and Marin Center archives up until now.
Jim Farley will give an illustrated talk on the history of the Marin County Fair -”The Happiest Fair on Earth”- on Friday, November 7, 2014 at 11 am at the Marin Art & Garden Center’s Livermore Pavilion. Our friends at the Moya Library/Ross Historical Society are the sponsors.
Stay tuned to this newsletter for insights into Marin’s rich cultural history as they are revealed to us as we process this important new collection.
