Depicted here is Marin City community leader Jesse E. Berry and his wife Flossie, circa 1963, in front of their new home, part of the Marin City redevelopment project which replaced delapidated World War II-era housing with new, modern structures.

Jesse Berry was instrumental in helping shape post-World War II Marin City. He organized the Marin City branch of the NAACP, served on the Marin City Tenant Council and also on the the boards of the Marin County Redevelopment Agency, Community Services District and Sausalito School District.

A University of Illinois graduate with a degree in electrical engineering, Berry first came to Marin to work on Marinship during World War II and subsequently made Marin City his home.
