New Exhibits on War & Military History at the Marin Civic Center (2014)

The Marin County Free Library is honored to host Always Lost: A Meditation on War, a travelling exhibit initiated in 2008 by Western Nevada College sociology professor Don Carlson to personalize the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2009 the exhibit opened at Western Nevada College and since then has been traveling to venues across the country to much acclaim. We invite you to view it now in the exhibit space on the 1st floor of the Marin County Civic Center and to join us on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 4 pm for a special reception with Marin County Veterans Service Officer Sean Stephens and local military veterans.
The heart of Always Lost is the Wall of the Dead: individual photographs with names of the more than 6,500 U.S. military war casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan since Sept. 11, 2001. The Always Lost project team is committed to keeping the Wall of the Dead current in honor of those who gave their lives and those who made it home. (Western Nevada College)
Always Lost also features stark images of war scenes in Iraq and Afghanistan by Pulitzer-prize winning photographers David Leeson and Cheryl Diaz Meyer of the Dallas Morning News.
The Military in Marin, currently on display in the Anne T. Kent California Room display area at the Civic Center Library shines a spot light on several facets of Marin’s military history including Hamilton Air Force Base; Marinship; and Historic Military Academies in Marin.
It also includes artifacts and photographs honoring two veterans, including noted Marin historian Richard Torney who served in Vietnam in the late 1960s and Sargeant Major John J. Kennedy of the U.S. Marines who served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
