Who among us has not wondered about our parents’ lives? What elements of chance and choice brought them together? How did past generations weave themselves into a single family? In California Bound, local author Peter Pike Jr. tracks his parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents for almost a century from the Gold Rush of 1849 to the Great Depression of the 1930s and the eve of World War II.

Seeking adventure and fortune, they sailed around Cape Horn, crossed the Plains in a covered wagon, searched for gold in the Sierra foothills, camped in Yosemite Valley, built a shipping and lumber empire, embraced San Francisco’s high society, and developed El Solyo Ranch in the Central Valley, “the largest diversified farm in the world.”

Peter Pike’s talk will focus on six of Mr. Pike’s family characters. In lives filled with grand schemes and broken dreams, they reached for the stars and fell back to earth. California bound them together.

Please join us on Monday, October 21, 2019 at 6:30 pm at 1600 Los Gamos, Suite 182, San Rafael, to take a trip in time with local author Peter Pike Jr. We look forward to seeing you then!

Followed by a book-signing
