Poor Farm Took in Marin’s Homeless

From 1880 to 1963, Marin County operated a farm, hospital, and cemetery in Lucas Valley for the care of the poor. Just as today, taxpayers were wary of providing services to the needy who came to Marin from other counties.
Local newspapers summarized the quarterly reports on the financial status of the farm and its residents that the Farm Superintendents submitted to the County Supervisors.
