The Black Point Inn

Black Point Inn, Novato, circa 1909. Anne T. Kent California Room Collection

In its heyday (circa 1890–1976) the Black Point Inn was the center of community life in the semi-isolated village of Black Point, just east of the Novato city line.

In Novato Township: Land Grant to World War II, the Novato Historical Guild tells us:

Business was modest in Black Point with just a general store and the Black Point Inn. The latter provided multiple services and was a landmark before it burned down in the spring of 1976. Most believe it was built during the 1890s and as long as it stood, the historic old Inn was a popular meeting place for locals and city folk. Politicians or lovers seeking privacy, families, fishermen, hikers -Black Point Inn met all of their needs. There were 10 hotel rooms upstairs and on the first floor was a Rosewood bar, a restaurant, Post Office and a grocery store.

Mrs. Louis Nave (the former Mae Miller) bought the Inn in 1908 and ran it for almost 40 years. She had her living quarters in the back. It passed through several more owners before the fire destroyed it.
