Over 3800 people enjoyed learning about the legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright and the Marin County Civic Center at “The Wright Place” at the Marin County Fair.

Visitors of all ages partook of our hands-on activities. Inspired by Wright, they assembled architectural structures with LEGOs, created geometric designs with the Froebel tablet system, and put together intricate puzzles.

Youngsters were enthusiastic about the coloring table where they could “color-in” the Civic Center and young and old alike tested their knowledge of history by playing our trivia game.

A highlight of “The Wright Place” was a special exhibit sponsored by the Frank Lloyd Wright Civic Center Conservancy. The Youth Photography Contest featured photographs inspired by Wright and Marin’s Civic Center taken by contestants ages 5 to 18.

Everyone was fascinated by the intricate scale model of the Civic Center and fairgrounds which was originally created by Taliesin-trained architects under the supervision of Frank Lloyd Wright. Marin County architect, William J. Schwarz, who also trained at Taliesin, carefully restored the model for display at the Fair.

If you didn’t get an opportunity to see the model at the Fair, you can visit it anytime on the first floor of the Marin County Civic Center Administration Building where it forms the centerpiece of our exhibit on the history of the building.

The Anne T. Kent California Room and the Frank Lloyd Wright Civic Center Conservancy wish to thank the 32 volunteers who staffed “The Wright Place” over the July 4th weekend and who provided expert assistance to our many visitors.

A good time was had by all!
