While many USC students are resting in the comfort of their homes or traveling this summer, Lili Yengoian (neuroscience) and Andres Caballero (health and human science) decided to live on campus during the three-month break.

Yengoian’s day starts at 7:00 a.m. She goes to the Lyon center and works out until 9:00 a.m. Then she heads over to Dickman Lab at USC where she continues her research. She stated via email “Right now I’m mostly working on creating crosses of certain drosophila (fruit flies) to obtain flies with specific genotypes that I will be working with in later projects.” Yengoian didn’t have anything planned over the summer aside from working and researching this summer. Given that her family lives in LA, she has the advantage of seeing her family on a daily basis.

Caballero starts his day by going to the gym, then heads to work at noon. He’s a Texas native and although his family misses him, they know that he’s working hard at school. Caballero also only planned to research and work over the summer.

Both students have been working hard, and have much more to come this summer.
