With big dreams to influence others, rising senior Kamilah Morgan started a club at her school, Hamilton High School.

Unlike normal school clubs, this group chooses an organization each year to raise money for. During the 2018–19 school year, her club raised money for the Flint water crisis. She hopes that next year’s cause will have a bigger effect on her community and that she can encourage her peers to go into fields that they aren’t represented in.

With a love for film and podcasts, Morgan has a lot of interest in the impact media has on people.

“I want to create,” Morgan said. “My biggest goal is to use a film or a newscast to influence someone to change their mind.”

Born and raised by Jamaican parents that migrated to the U.S. in the 80s, Morgan is the youngest daughter of three. She describes her family as very close and that’s very important to her.

Civic engagement plays a big role in her life, which is why she was extremely excited to participate in the Annenberg Youth Academy (AYA).

“I think this program is really important,” Morgan said. “I’m glad that I got the opportunity to participate in it.”

Morgan is also a big fan of music and her love for it extends over various genres, including indie, rap, instrumental and French. She aspires to attend universities such as Vanderbilt University, University of California Los Angeles and the University of Hawaii.
