Drunken Boat Editors and Staff Start Anew with Anomaly
Big news! DB24, the last issue of Drunken Boat and my first full issue as Editor and Executive Director of Drunken Boat, is in fact the last issue of Drunken Boat as such.
The situation under the name Drunken Boat has become untenable (the series of events leading up to this change are detailed on my personal blog here). While the future of the “Drunken Boat” name is unknown, current Executive Director and Editor in Chief Erica Mena and all of the current editorial staff and board of Drunken Boat are transitioning to a new venture under Erica’s press, Anomalous. Our next issue, currently in production, will be coming out as Anomaly25 in June.
Anomalous Press has existed as a print and web publication since 2010, garnering a reputation for publishing innovative works by experimental artists. Anomalous will continue to publish books as it always has, and a new online journal, Anomaly will be picking up where Drunken Boat left off, under the direction of Erica and an incredible staff of editors and writers. They’ve jumped a sinking ship, but they’re swimming to shore.
As such the Drunken Boat social media, blog, publications, and website will not longer be managed by any of the former staff. To follow the new project and the editors you’ve grown to trust, follow Anomalous Press on Facebook and Twitter and visit anmly.org. The current Drunken Boat Facebook and Twitter accounts will be shut down in the coming weeks.
Drunken Boat email access was shut down last week, so if you have been trying to email anyone at Drunken Boat, their new email addresses are the same as the old one, but @anomalouspress.org.
Anomalous Press, Anomaly, and all of us involved in the operations of Anomalous Press stand strongly against assault, stalking, abuse, and the unacknowledged theft of labor and work from anyone, but especially from people of color, women, and trans people. Anomalous Press remains committed to our readers, authors, community, and to one another. We especially remain committed to actively seeking out and promoting the work of marginalized and underrepresented artists, including especially people of color, women, queer, disabled, and gender nonconforming artists.
Since the future of the archives of Drunken Boat, and website, remains unclear, and because we couldn’t leave vulnerable the work of hundreds of artists and writers, we will also be maintaining the full Drunken Boat archive at http://anomalouspress.org/db/.
