Age of virtual influence.
Lines of what is real and what is not get blurred.
Meta recently held their connect event showcasing a lot of new products, mainly VR, AR glasses and AI. During the AI presentation, a list of virtual influencers — or ‘assistants’ — was set to be available to help the user navigate different topics and trends.
Although their names were changed, most of these AI ‘assistants’ are prominent individuals who are proficient in their set skills and careers.
Blurred lines cometh
This is just the beginning. Every individual in the near future will have access to create their own virtual AI. Imagine how fun and weird it is going to get.
How this will be done has not been shared yet, but we can have an idea sharing your data will be required — I’m talking biometrics, voice, and movements i.e., enough data to duplicate you online (Even your internet history)
Virtual and reality are blending at an alarming rate. With the rise of this, deepfakes will come forth and reign chaos in the masses.
The good, the bad, and the technology
Like all innovation brought forth by man, it will have to undergo scrutiny under a very broad lens. There is an opportunity to make a permanent ‘Side hustle’ if your image is worth it, obviously.
In an age of deep fakes and virtual; propaganda, disinformation and misinformation; authentication of the real thing is going — or it already is — one of the most important things to have. The rise of AI avatars will only make things harder to navigate.
However, it offers people a unique chance to increase their sales and marketing using social media even if they are camera shy, not around, or just plain have no interest in the action in front of lights and cameras. What about you, will you join the bandwagon and have a digital twin?
