AR Cloud now on Magic Leap 2 — Overview
Spatial computing company Magic Leap has announced in August a range of updates to its flagship platform, Magic Leap 2.
A significant update is it’s AR Cloud.
AR Cloud from Magic Leap enables multiple users to access the same persistent, large-scale digital content integrated with their physical environments, in real-time — using features such as mapping, localization, and anchors. It allows Magic Leap 2 devices to access large-scale spatial data.

Magic Leap AR Cloud — ‘Shared Spaces’
AR Cloud taps into the advanced sensor and camera stack of Magic Leap 2 to compile detailed scans and meshes of the physical world into ‘Shared Spaces.’ This spatial data can be managed on the web-based console where digital twin administrators create ‘Shared Spaces,’ manage device-side scans, and merge scans to contribute to larger-scale space.
Multiple users can interact with the same virtual content irrespective of their geographical locations. AR Cloud admins are able to import and export spatial maps, manage large-scale digital twin deployments, and monitor Magic Leap 2 device access.
Magic Leap AR Cloud — Benefits
- Co-present experiences — allows multiple users to experience the same digital content in the same place through shared maps and their spatial anchors.
- Large spatial maps (>10,000m2). Without AR Cloud each device has a limit of five Local Spaces of ~250m2.
- Device access to an unlimited amount of ‘Spaces’ — Magic Leap 2 devices can gain unlimited access to shared ‘Spaces,’ as opposed to the 5 stored locally.
- Textured mesh exports — export textured mesh scans of your ‘Space’ in USD file format.
Licensing
For Magic Leap 1, all devices used the same cloud offered by Magic Leap. Magic Leap 2 devices using AR Cloud require a Developer Pro or Enterprise license. If you’re using (or planning to use) AR Cloud, the device requires OS version 1.1.0.

Deploying Magic Leap AR Cloud
AR Cloud setup is intended for IT admins. It is installed by the customer utilizing Kubernetes on their own preferred cloud infrastructure. Setting up Magic Leap AR Cloud is achieved via the following;
- Review and setup the system requirements.
- Request to Magic Leap customer care.
- Download from https://developer-docs.magicleap.cloud/docs/guides/arcloud and follow the installation instructions
- Verify installation.
