METAVERSE / SPATIAL COMPUTING

We will believe what we are led to believe, or so it seems. And the fact is that the different “information” media are constantly bombarding us with new data that on many occasions cause interests to change hands like in a poker game.

Today I want to bring you data. Not information, data.

The origin of Spatial Computing predominates in this document and the Metaverse is relegated to the ecosystem as a whole, so I will make a special emphasis on the origin and evolution of Spatial Computing until its appropriation by the Apple company, just as Meta did with the Metaverse itself.

The creation of this scheme starts from the core of the Infrastructure. Without the structure, the rest of the points are meaningless.

In 1968, Sutherland introduced his ‘Head Mounted Display’. Dubbed the ‘Sword of Damocles’ due to its ceiling-mounted tracking armature, it enabled users to view a blend of the real world and computer-generated augmentations. When discussing augmented reality (a term Apple avoids using with its device, Vision Pro), this is precisely what is meant: a fully realized three-dimensional environment where interactive augmentations seamlessly integrate with the physical world.

As Apple claims to have invented space computing, Tom Furness talks about how he has been working with Virtual Reality for the military, medicine and other industries since the 1960s in this Kent Bye interview.

Terry Caelli and other experts were already working on Spatial Computing decades ago.

The term “spatial computing” was reintroduced in 2003 by Simon Greenwold, referring to “human interaction with a machine in which the machine retains and manipulates referents to real objects and spaces.” John Underkoffler, an alumnus of MIT Media Lab, delivered a TED talk in 2010 showcasing a live demonstration of multi-screen, multi-user spatial computing systems developed by Oblong Industries

Under Rony’s leadership, the company launched the first of their kind wearable spatial computing systems: the Magic Leap One, Creator Edition and Magic Leap 1 Enterprise, both of which are currently in use at Fortune 500 companies, major universities, hospitals, developers, defense, and governments around the world.

In conclusion, the term was already borrowed from other works of technology experts and visionaries as well as from Rony’s company, which already used the terminology to refer to its first Magic Leap

I would like to underline that partially, these results have been collected from your enneagram results. Personal visions have also been introduced after a review of its trajectory from its beginnings, its methods of acting with its employees and with the public media.

Clearly the reign of the masses of users is held by the company Epic Games. They have everything the other two companies want. Of course they are different segments and the comparison is disparate. This represents two devices or wearables with a software or entertainment product (video game). However, all three companies share the goal of bringing other digital worlds to the user.

Of course, it is worth noting that if Meta or Apple managed to faithfully reproduce the world of Fortnite with excellent technical features, the device that made it possible would drink from that large cup of approximately 450 million users which would be an incredible booster for the companies in profits.

We also have to take into account market segmentation when talking about both devices which are night and day.
While one is aimed at the masses (MQ3), the other is aimed at a select audience that values price and branding (AVP). In terms of catalogue and range of applications, MQ3 wins by a landslide also due to its longer time on the market when it comes to time.

We will see how the reign of these two devices progresses, who manages to take over the world and of course which term prevails over the other in the coming years.

Who knows, maybe both terms will go down in history as something that wanted to be but was not.
