On the 17th of August 2022, “Antariksh Ki Khoj” undertook an event with the NGO Manzil Mystics. This was our first on-ground initiative of spreading the joy of space with children who are less privileged than us.

The initiative involved an introductory presentation in which the children were taught about telescopes and their working along with other space phenomena. The session was very interactive and involved a quiz along with question-answer sessions.

In the night sky, we observed various constellations including Ursa Major, Leo, and Scorpius. Using a Reflector telescope (f/5,1000mm) and a 105mm Refractor telescope, we observed Saturn and its moon Titan; Jupiter and its Galilean Moons (Lo, Callisto, Ganymede, and Europa); we also observed the Moon and a Double star system. The crowd was sincere and inquisitive and had various questions to ask for everything they observed.

The session did not end here. The crowd was also taught how to set a telescope on the object they want to observe and each of them was able to perform this task well before the session ended. They were introduced to new star gazing apps which excited them a lot. In the end, a book was presented to each one of them as a tool to further encourage their interest in Space Science.

On this occasion, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to my mentor-Mr. Ajay Talwar.

I look forward to organizing more such sessions in future.
