Parents must judge and guide the child with the same yard-stick they use for themselves

Children are pretty quick in picking up behavior and practices form parents. Parents need to be careful and fair in how they conduct themselves if they expect the same behavior from their children.
ātmaupamyena sarvatra samaṃ paśyati yorjuna |
sukhaṃ vā yadi vā duḥkhaṃ sa yogī paramo mataḥ ||
आत्मौपम्येन सर्वत्र समं पश्यति योS र्जुन |
सुखं वा यदि वा दुखं स योगी परमो मतः ||
The yogi who perceives every situation be it happy or unhappy with the same consideration as used for himself is deemed the best (Chapter 6, Shloka 32)
