This week in class, the reading that stuck out to me the most was “Do Artifacts have politics” by Langdon Winner. Artifacts were defined as any form of technology, and after reading this article the answer to Winner’s title was an obvious yes. I never realized how much thought people put into distributing technology for the purpose of gleaning the “undesirable” people out of certain areas in various cities. When technology begins to be made for specific people in a have and the have nots kind of way, that is when the purpose of technology gets distorted. Technology is suppose to be for everyone and allow people of different backgrounds to share something in common.

When discussing this article in class, the question “is modern technology and the influence it has on the way we communicate at fault for society using it to seclude themselves from present time” became a topic of conversation. To answer the question, I believe the answer is no because people are the ones that are using technology to enable their insecurities. what was meant to be a way to communicate with more people, has become a way to prevent yourself from having to speak to someone in person.

However, being able to communicate with limitless amount of people around the world instantly has truly been a game changer and I think more people need to realize that the goal of technology is to make things easier to do as oppose to easier not to do things.
