In class, we watched a documentary on the Syrian war and how technology has severely impacted the actions that happen during war. Technology has completely changed in the past couple years which has created for an increasingly globalized and interconnected world. The way that war gets televised and reported on in the news has become an increasing point of debate. Often times people don’t realize how much influence and power they have especially in terms of media. News channels can easily bias stories and paint dialogues that might not necessarily be the truth. Social media also plays a big role in these political conflicts. https://www.vox.com/world/2017/12/8/16690352/social-media-war-facebook-twitter-russia. This article discusses how social media can enable citizens to actually unite and take on opressive regimes. People can attempt to start a revolution or movement all from their own computer at home even if they aren’t in close distance with the location of a conflict. People can build up authenticity and intimacy through digital networks and relationships. When certain people spearhead these movements they can start networking with people and building followings just from their own homes. This power of interconnected communication is only being tapped into slightly as information can change the world.
